Think about what a threshold is. In the dictionary, it’s defined as “the magnitude or intensity that must be exceeded for a certain reaction, phenomenon, result, or condition to occur or be manifested.” But, what is your personal threshold? Have you ever thought about and paid attention to your threshold? You might notice that there are times where it feels like you just continually keep bumping against your threshold. Maybe life keeps throwing curveballs or maybe it’s just one challenge after another. Whatever it is, pay attention and notice the times where you feel the threshold being bumped against.



Our Comfort Zone

We all have this threshold that exists in every area of our life. As we go about our day-to-day, we continually bump into that threshold. This is just our comfort zone. We’ll keep bumping to the edge of our comfort zone as we grow, as we are challenged, and as we encounter various situations.


Pushing Past The Threshold

This about when you have a goal or something you wanted to accomplish by a certain time. Maybe you have changes you were trying to make, made a resolution, or are trying to reach a high goal you set for yourself. As you approach those changes, you begin to feel that threshold. You begin to feel like you’re at the end of how far you can go. The thing is, as long as you feel this way, you’re going to stay exactly where you are.

It’s not until you successfully push yourself over that threshold that you are no longer stuck bumping into it. It’s not until you do this that you will get out of the place you’ve been all along. So, how do you bump yourself over that threshold? To start, it requires that we get a little uncomfortable.

You have to want to move out of your comfort zone. You’ll have to put up with a little bit of anxiousness and maybe feel a little angsty to push past. While you’re still bumping into it, you might find yourself feeling a little bit out of sorts. You might find yourself not feeling too great. That’s because you’re bumping that threshold and needing to pop over it. You need to bump against it and finally pop yourself over and out.


Down The Road

Once you’ve bumped out of the first threshold victoriously, celebrate that positive. It’s important to recognize when we move out of our comfort zones and push past our thresholds so that we can prepare for more down the road. Thresholds are never going to go away completely, they’ll just change as you move along with life. You have to get used to the cycle that comes along with them. The cycle begins with going to that next threshold, getting uncomfortable, pushing past it, and then doing the same thing all over again. Keep this in mind when you’re feeling defeated. Keep this in mind when you’re feeling like saying, “I can’t do this.”

That’s your threshold. Hang in there, baby. You’re going to get to the other side. Keep pushing through.
